A running pace converter turns one number into all the others. Enter a pace or a speed in any unit. You instantly read the same effort as min/km, min/mile, km/h, and mph. It also doubles as a race pace predictor, showing finish times for standard distances.
Runners hop between units constantly. Your watch shows min/km. A training plan lists min/mile. The gym treadmill only speaks km/h or mph. This tool keeps all four in sync so you never have to guess.
How the conversion works
Every conversion here rests on one fixed number. A mile is 1.609344 kilometers. To turn a mile pace into a kilometer pace, divide by 1.609344. To turn a pace into a speed, divide 3,600 by the seconds per unit. Everything else follows from those two steps.
Miles to km pace calculator
Coming from a US or UK plan written in minutes per mile? Select min/mi, enter your pace, and the converter highlights the per-kilometer equivalent. This is the number Tokyo race markers, pace groups, and your GPS watch all use. An 8:00 mile is 4:58 per km. A 9:00 mile is 5:35 per km. It makes translating an international training plan effortless.
Km to miles pace calculator
Training in metric but racing somewhere that thinks in miles? Pick min/km and read across to min/mile. A 5:00 per km pace is 8:03 per mile. A 4:30 per km pace is 7:14 per mile. The two speeds update alongside so you can set a treadmill in either km/h or mph. It works backwards and forwards perfectly as a km to miles pace calculator.
Pace versus speed
Pace and speed measure the same effort in opposite directions. Pace is time per distance, like 5:00 per kilometer. It is how most runners think. Speed is distance per time, like 12.0 km/h. It is what treadmills and cyclists show. Switching between km/h and mph is just the mile factor again. Next time you are stuck at the gym, use this as a treadmill pace calculator to match the machine speed to your training plan.
Finish times for any distance
You do not just get unit conversions. Enter your target rhythm and this tool acts as a 5K pace calculator, 10K pace calculator, half marathon pace calculator, and marathon pace calculator all at once. Whether you are finding the right tempo run pace calculator target or setting up an interval pace calculator plan, it immediately shows the race times you can expect.

FAQ
- How do I convert min/mile to min/km?
- Divide your per-mile pace by 1.609344 since a mile is exactly that many kilometers. An 8:00 per mile pace becomes 4:58 per kilometer. Pick min/mi above, type your pace, and our running pace converter shows the per-km pace along with both speeds instantly.
- How do I convert km/h to running pace?
- Divide 3,600 by your speed in km/h to get your pace in seconds per kilometer. Running 12 km/h works out to 300 seconds, or 5:00 per kilometer. Select km/h above, enter the speed, and read your pace and mile equivalent right away. This makes an excellent treadmill pace calculator.
- How many kilometers is a mile?
- One mile is exactly 1.609344 kilometers. This was fixed by international agreement in 1959. So 5 miles is 8.05 km and a 10 km run is 6.21 miles. Use the distance helper below the calculator to switch any race length or training run between the two units.
- What is a good running pace in km/h?
- It depends on your fitness. An easy run pace calculator might suggest a jog near 9 to 10 km/h. A strong recreational runner cruises around 12 km/h, which is 5:00 per kilometer. The converter shows km/h, mph, and both paces together so you can compare against any reference.
